Questions and Answers
If I require blood pressure medication or another kind of prescribed pharmaceutical, will my Primary Care Holistic Physician be able to prescribe or renew my prescription?

Your Primary Care Holistic Physician will consult with AMI’s Medical Director regarding your needs. AMI's Medical Director will prescribe or renew prescriptive medicine when appropriate. However, complex medical conditions requiring multiple prescription medications may require face-to-face contact with the appropriate conventional medical specialist.

I have allergies. Can I still see my current physician?

Yes, if your current physician is already a part of AMI’s contracted network.

You will initially see your Primary Care Holistic Physician for an alternative medicine work-up. If appropriate, additional referral will take place.

Will my insurance cover vitamins and herbs?

This depends on the particular insurance plan purchased by your employer.

Will I be able to select the alternative therapies I’d like to have as a part of my treatment?

In consultation with your Primary Care Holistic Physician, you will discuss treatment options. Based on your current condition and individual factors, he or she will make recommendations for your consideration and utilization.

Will I need a referral to see my OB/Gyn for annual exams?

In most cases, managed care organizations do not require a referral for annual OB/Gyn exams.

Is mental health covered by AMI?

Yes, it is, according to the terms & conditions of your Health Care policy. However, because at AMI we believe that mind/body interventions profoundly affect mental status, we frequently utilize a variety of stress management techniques.

Is my Primary Care Holistic Physician able to diagnose?

Yes, in addition, diagnosis for complex medical work-up is done in consultation with AMI’s M.D. Medical Director, who will determine when a specialist referral is necessary.

If my Primary Care Holistic Physician agrees that I need to see a specialist, can I go to any physician or hospital I choose?

No. AMI has designed a unique network of specialists and hospital providers. These contracted physicians and hospitals were chosen because of their commitment to serving a population of patients who seek an integrated delivery system that combines alternative medicine and conventional allopathic (Western) medicine. If hospitalization is required your Primary Care Holistic Physician will discuss which hospital will best meet your needs.

In the event of an acute serious illness or injury will I be treated by alternative or mainstream practice protocols?

A serious illness or injury for example, bone fracture or acute appendicitis, is likely to require mainstream medical treatment. However, we will incorporate into the post-operative care any alternative practices that your Primary Care Holistic Physician believes will aid in the healing process.

Can I receive treatment from an alternative therapist outside of AMI’s network of providers?

Your Primary Care Holistic Physician and AMI’s M.D. Medical Director will discuss treatment options that may include utilizing an outside alternative therapist. In general, however, this is not the case, since our Primary Care Holistic Physicians provide comprehensive alternative therapies in their offices.
